Boomerang Data Recovery is a file application that allows you to search and recover deleted files or lost files from deleted partitions on your Mac.

The application is based on a very simple principle: when a computer deletes a file from a hard drive, it actually does a logical deletion, rather than a physical deletion. The logical deletion means that the computer deletes the information about that file and it marks the space as unallocated in the file system, but the file itself remains on the disk. All the recovery applications work in this way.

Boomerang Data Recovery starts with a very simple interface that allows you to start a new disk scan, or restore a disk scan that has been previously saved. There's a big warning that tells you not to save the recover data on the same partition that you would like to rescue. The reason is rather simple: you may overwrite the file you would like to recover, as the file was logically deleted, so the space is marked as free in the file system.

Depending on your disk size, the whole scanning process can take quite a while. Usually these kind of activities take a lot of time, so you don't have to worry because this is normal.

The results of the scan process are structured between 'Volume Recover', 'Deleted Files', 'Lost Partition', and 'Media Files', which allows you to chose the appropriate method for the file recovery. Anyway, the interface of the application hints you about every specific action and its recommendations.

The recovery action works pretty easily. All you need to do is to select the desired files/directories/volumes that you want to recover, and use the 'Save Selected Files' button.

Pluses: it allows you to recover the lost data from your hard drives, it has multiple recover modes.

Drawbacks / flaws: some minor instabilities.

In conclusion: this application can be very useful in those cases where you accidentally delete files, partitions, or a partition gets lost, and you need to recover the precious data from it.
